Oru cheru punchiri(2000), Review

Image
Sometimes, we may feel that the old generation  was progressive and usually the new gen of coarse. But the regression happens in between. The middle age of every society may have some old baggage of values that they keep carrying while they interact with the next generation. Our cheru punchiri addresses these conflicts in a lighter approach without pointing out any critical issues in particular.   It's a classic Malayalam film written and directed by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and tells the story of an elderly romantic couple in a remote village in Kerala.  The film discusses the bonds between Krishna kurup ( oduvil unnikrishnan) and his beloved wife Ammalukutty. Their day-to-day life and their efforts to make the people around them happy is the most engaging part of the film. Through the leading character played by one of the greatest actors of the Malayalam film industry, the late oduvil unnikrishnan , the film expresses its opinions on the value of education, the importance of personal

Oppenheimer, Review

Image
The film Oppenheimer is not a typical neo noir film. Its not about magnificent visual interpretation of nuclear physics and atomic explosion. Its not about mind bending exercise on non linear timelines that the audience most probably expect from a Christopher Nolan film. Having said so, let us analyse what Oppenheimer is all about..... The plot. The film is rich in its content as it mention the events very quickly. Its starts when Robert Oppenheimer inducted into his teaching career at ' Berkeley university ' as a theoretical physicist during the time of scientific breakthroughs. Oppenheimer while working, come to know that two German scientists discovered the possibility of Nuclear fission that he thought impossible. US govt and the then scientific think tanks were so upset after this discovery as they believe that the Germans will use the process to create atomic explosions. To counter the anticipated danger, US govt starts Manhattans project to build an atomic bomb under t

18+, Malayalam movie review

Image
18+ is a Rom com drama with lots of situational humours and youthful energy. The film also explores the politics and criticise the hypocrites of left wing ideologies who claim themselves progressive but are still conservative, casteist and patriarchal. The film is centred around an eloping youngsters without the consent of girl's family. Their romance is sidelined in the film as they are not placed in such a situation. So, the story turned more about a 'humour packed village adventure' than a straightforward romantic drama. The best part of the film is the cordinated give and take dailogue deliveries and chemistry between the leading actors. Their comedy and friendship is the soul of the film. Music and background score goes in a smooth flow and the cinematography is also ordinarily perfect. Nikhila vimal dressed as a young, confused magistrate is also comes up with humour but seems underwritten.  When Mangalasseri Neelakandan in the iconic film Devasuram expressed his fe

In the popular series Greys Anatomy, Meredith grey says- "There's an end to every storm. Once all the trees have been uprooted, once all the houses have been ripped apart. The wind will hush, the clouds will part, the rain will stop, the sky will clear in an instant. And only then in those quiet moments after the storm do we learn who was strong enough to survive it?"  And after watching this film, one can realise that humanity will survive.. T he film is based on real incidents occurred in kerala back in 2018 when the state experienced unprecedented rainfall along with an abruptly formed low pressure that further worsened the situation. Ponniyil Selvan 2 (PS2) Review

Image
"The lies that the kings tell is called Politics" as Nandhini says with authenticity, it drives us back to the mighty Chola empire of power, vengeance, thrown, and thus the bloodshed. The film is one of the stellar parades of the most talented artists of Indian cinema in terms of both on-screen performances and off-screen technicality. The story of PS 2 has given an equitable impact on each leading character like Aditya Karikalan, Nandhini, Kundavai, Arul Mozhi and Vallavadevan. At the same time, the emotional hook of the film is not the war for the thrown but the troubled past and complex romance of Nandhini and Aditya Karikalan. All the characters were at their best in the hands of dedicated actors like Vikram, Aishwarya rai bachan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha. The Beauty. PS2 can be considered as a reflection of Might, with period splendour. Great Palaces, Brave Warfare,  Gorgeous women, and rich culture, are all represented as eulogized enigmas of the Chola kingdom.
