SALUTE, Malayalam movie Review

"Salute" is a crime drama (not much a thriller), visualise the professional lives of Police officers, their compromised values, Ethics, and family life.

The film starts when a young police officer named Aravid tries to access a case file from the police station where he was serving as a Sub-inspector years before  Turning the pages of the file, he recollects the way in which his team framed false evidences against a local man named Murali, because of the political pressure to conclude the investigation warfoottedly. Aravind filled with regrets for this immoral execution of his duty that threw the life of an innocent man to a life-long imprisonment, and his lone sister to social auditing. With a deep sense of repentance, he tries to reinvestigate the case though it will make the entire department (including his brother) the culprit and finally conclude the case proving himself and themselves wrong.

POSITIVES.

The film is more realistic, not much dramatic. It shows the limitations as well as the powers of a policeman in various degrees on varied circumstances.

It focuses on the theme "Helplessness" that can be indirectly attributed to every characters in the story, be it the police officers and the aggrieved.

Dulquir salman, Manoj k jayan and others too did the role so convincingly and effortlessly.

Film exposes the corruption in police force with regard to forged evidence, and unethical way of investigations. It stands critically on issues like confidence-tricking, Identity thefts and social auditing faced by the family members of the convicts.

NEAGATIVES.

It doesn't have any usual package for a crime thriller. No twists and turns, No intellectualism, No roaring BGM, No specific narrative style for an unfolding case dairy etc.

Script went literally flate in some points when neither emotional nor a leading thread for investigation can be spotted.

Music was very passive in the film. Without any gripping scores and tracks, it never made any impact on the screen.

The film criticises the political parties and tries to make the audience sympathize with police force , by that way, shifting the entire blame on political parties in the name of 'political pressure ". Actually, Political parties in the film did nothing but ordering the Police department to Fastrack the investigation..

Rating

Am giving 6/10 for this crime drama, in which there are lots of crime but not much drama..
