KURUTHI, Malayalam movie Review

Latest Malayalam film Kuruthi , released on OTT platform, is a blend of Realism and few exaggerated efforts of political balancing.

Plot.
The story is happening more in the middle of the night within a Hilltop-house of Ibrahim ( Roshan) when a Police inspector Sathyan (Murali Gopi) enters in, with a boy in his Custody. He tells Ibrahim that The boy with him, happened to be an alleged, religiously radicalised murderer who has to be handed over to the police who were expected to reach on the other side of the hill in the next morning. He adds that their Police team got attacked by a group of extremists midway as they shattered here and there. SI sathyan (MuraliGopi) with the accused boy seek one- night-stand in Ibrahims house so that the boy can be handed over to the cops on the next morning . Suma , Ibrahim's neighbour , comes to the house to handover the dinner forcefully kept within the house by SI Sathyan to avoid further risks..

The film takes its gripping when the deep sentiments of each character got revealed along with their religious perversion as the house itself changes into a conflict between Hindus and Muslims. With a religious shade, the film retells the whole backdrop and prefix the sequences like  The boy in Custody being charged for killing a muslim man as his revenge against another homicide of a muslim man, for impurifying their temple premises. Ibrahim though a muslim takes his vow to the Police man who brought the boy in his Custody ,that he will handover the boy only to the police, not to the hands of muslim extremists.

The room again witness the bloodshed when Laiq( Prithviraj), Kameerkka (Shine tom chacko)  tries to enter the house to kill that boy they were the people attacked  the boy and the Police down. The plot get spiralled up again following other emotionally  palpable incidences from different characters. Realising a snakebite on sumas brother( who accidentally entered the house), she and the boy, with her brother escapes the house to the hospital. On the way, Laiq and Ibrahim's family chases them down in the dark hills. Both Laiq and Suma have their own religious stand but Ibrahim being more humanist wish to balance both of them without going for any violent forms of revenge-gratification.

The film takes its final chase when Suma, the boy, and Sumas brother get caught by Laiq and Ibrahim in a hill-slop. As the film ends, it shows the hatred got carried by the next generation though Liaq couldn't kill the boy..

POSITIVES.
# Eventhough Prithviraj enters the plot in 48th minute of the 2 hour long film with a constant thrills of danger and the thirst of blood, it could Maintain the qualities of a thriller from the time when Murali Gopi enters the scene.
#Characters in the leads especially Mammookkoya, Roshan, Prithviraj , Shine tom chacko and Srinda have given decent performances without any flaws.
# BGM , especially the gasps of the Prithviraj while he speak, can made the screen apparantly little more closer to the audience..
# Cinematography , editing and actions, were also served its own purpose.

NEAGATIVES.
 # Dailogue deliveries of Two boys in the film sometimes felt like a gravel in a cake as they expressed their religious opinions with their own level of maturity ,but resulted as an immature exhibition of their artistic talent.
# Though the director placed the songs at the right place , but it doesn't made any impact on the film.
# Though the scriptwriter has broken alot of sweat to balance the religious sentiments, the final takeaway is nothing other than the highlighted Islamic terror at the same time, smoothly placing Hindu Extremism into silence..

Rating : Am giving 8/10 to this thriller and recommend you all to have a look to know who hunts in the middle of the night...
