KURUP(കുറുപ്പ്), Film Review.

When Dulquir salman's onscreen charisma clubbed with a character of negative shade, "Kurup" as a film turned out to become a "DON"- like- film for sometimes at it's final reels Though it takes too much time to establish the character. With such a narrative, I can't  consider it as an absolute crime thriller, but Kurup is really interesting,Stylish and attractive.

PLOT.

The film starts when Saiju kurup (police officer) read the case dairies of another retiring police officer who investigated the case of an infamous fugitive offender named Sukumara kurup. The story shifts it's timeline back to 1960's when Gopalakrishnan(kurup), a stubborn youngster from Kerala joins Indian airforce training, then to Mumbai for training. Gopalakrishnan meets arms dealers there and smuggles defense equipments from his campus, but eventually get got.To escape from the legal charges on these foulplays,  he flies back to his home , leaving his Girlfriend Saradha, and mock his own death, and gains another identity as Sukumarakurup.

After marrying saradha, he travels to middle east with the help of his friend with whom he had arms deal in Mumbai. He owns a decent job there and plans another impersonation to trick one of the richest man in Arabia who deals with crude oil business. After coming back to Kerala, he execute his plan but traced by the police inspector , who traps him back to the Royal business man as he says " There is no law that can punish Kurup in proportion to the crimes he had done, so he has to be punished by the one who is chasing him".

POSITIVES.

1) Film tried its best not to glorify the Criminalities of Kurup, though the screen presence of Dulquir sometimes justify himself with his style and with few dailogues like-" it was not my plan to kill anyone" , on another scene when he asks his relative - " Do you think i can kill someone?"..

2) Music, especially the background score , is admirably balancing the reflections of 20th century's underworld with the highly evolved digital soundtracks of modern times.

3) Artworks collectively grabbed the finest elements of the time, chronologically developed its reflections from Bombay to Mumbai to countryside kerala.

4)Dulquir and the supporting actors were all wearing their characters so convincingly.

5)Narrative style, though it's not new, redeemed the thrilling elements of the story that most of the Keralites are already familiar with. Exposing the events one by one while retelling the story seems very convincing to the second half when we all expect all the twists and turns in the plot.

NEGATIVES.

1) The film took more time to establish the character in detail to show him as a habitual offender, but at the same time may dissatisfy the audience who were waiting for an entertaining mind-bender.

2) Purposeless Romantic scenes could only lengthen the duration of first-half, without adding any substance to the core of it's story.

3) Screenplay and dialogues went too flat when we were expecting something better. Monologues of different characters in the film couldn't sounds so great both emotionally, literally and cinematically.

4) Film have few loose ends for which one can't come up with any conclusive answers.

LOOSE ENDS-

1) Saiju kurup as the senior police officer don't know the retirement of Indrajith even though the police department arranged a farewell function for him in the very next room.

2) Whether Kurup was chasing Police at the climax (acc to Kurups on narration), or the police made Kurup to follow them, is confusing. Whose plan worked in the climax is still mysterious.

3) How GopalKrishnan impersonated into Sukumarakurup and lived with this false identity in his own village, as Sukumarakurup, sponsoring funds and wandering publically?? Did he loitered around his village in his real name or as Sukumarakurupp???...still needs some clarity.

4)According to the film, Kurupp got trapped in the ship and then claims his third identity as Alexander.. In between these two, what happened ,is the space for the audience to theories their own stories..

RATING: Am giving 6/10 for this much-awaited film that served in a decorated plate with delicious elements though it may or may not satisfy a thirsty fanboy.
