Thattassery koottam, Review

Arjun ashok, through his recent appearances in his films, has earned an easily relatable 'Boy who next door' image from malayalee audience. His latest release "Thattassery koottam" is just another example of it.

Plot.

The film features Sanju, a youngster who aspires to become a civil servant but taking his traditional livelihood of jewellery making for granted. He falls in love with a girl from wealthy family for her father, sanju's uncle worked for. He starts a jewellery shop by his own, with the help of his old uncle to elevate his family status in par with his love interest. But the jewellery shop got stolen by an organised criminals hail from Tamilnadu. Sanju and his friends chase the gang to get back their gold and to fix everything back.

Positives.

Its a feel good entertainer drawn in a countryside canvas. The beauty, comedy, relationships and family values of a village lifestyle is nicely reflected in each frames.

Story is convincing and the actors made it satisfyingly watchable without feel of legging.

It shows a progressive outlook for inclusion of sexual minorities into the social mainstream. There is a scene in which one character slaps his friend who called a transgender as Chanthuppottu in a vulgar tone.

Negatives.

There is nothing uncommon, no surprises, no emotional punch, and nothing unprecedented happens in this film. That's what makes it into a feel good genre, not just at the climax, but throughout its course.

Rating.

I am giving 7 out of 10 for Thattassery koottam, that's best suited to a genre of 'one-time watchable.'
