O K KANAMANI. TAMIL MOVIE REVIEW

O K KANAMANI (o kadhal kanmani ) is an urban love story written and directed by one of the most promising  Director Mani Ratnam. Even though the director had a couple of lackluster flicks in the recent past, this time he came up with a youthful love story that fits to the thoughts of contemporary generation without spoiling the beauty of love. The movie spotlights Dulquer salman and nithya menon in the lead role with the support from Prakash raj and Leela samson. The sound tracks are composed by A.R.Rahman and P.Sreeram did the cinematography. The film is made under the banner of Madras talkies.

PLOT: The movie starts when Adhi( Dulquer salman ) meets Thaara(Nithya menon) in a Railway station while she was attempting to jump into the tracks to commit suicide after a fight with her boyfriend. She hears him and stepped away from the track as both leave the scene without getting acquainted.
Aadhi works a s a computer game developer and Thaara is an Architect by profession. They once again meet in their friends marriage and exchange their contact number through finger gestures. As they both  are carrier driven and do not believe in the institution of marriage. Marriage according to them is just a matter of possessiveness and egos. They both prefer to give maximum freedom and comfort on a relation.
                                            Adhi lives as a paying guest in a house owned by his brothers colleague named Ganapathy (Prakash raj) whose wife(Bhavani aunty) is an Alzheimers disease patient but a good carnatic singer.The movies goes with so many shots of Adhi's and Thaara's travelling, and dating. Adhi chases Thaara for a joy when she goes to Ahmadabad for professional visit to some of the ancient architectures there. Aadhi simply chases her and they enjoy the hours after her job. After having dinner they miss the return train and thus checked in to an ordinary hotel to stay at night.There they have fun and sex.
After returning back to Mumbai, they decided to live together in Aadis paying guest home. Ganapathy didn't permit them to share the room, but finally accepted it when Thaara impresses his wife with beautiful carnatic tunes.
Eventually, Thaara's mother know all this and forces her to marriage. On a surprise visit by Aaadhi's brother and family, they also caught him. Although their parents were some what willing for  marital relation, Aadhi and Thaara refuses to follow the custome of marriage. They wish to be free- flying through out their life without giving/restricting themselves to anyone on a wedlock.
Aadhi is a  computer game developer by profession design a new game and got opportunity to fly to U.S  and by the time Thaara also gets a chance to go to Paris for her higher studies. Counting the last days of being together, they wish to enjoy their maximum before moving apart.
The movie tilts reverse in its essence when they know that they are actually possessive of each other. They analyse themselves and revises their own emotions though they both know that the living together relation is aimed  to give maximum freedom to the other without getting into others personal stuffs, without commitments, without egos, without being possessive. Thaara realize that she hurt when Aadhi lives her for two days without telling anything. She hurt when Aaadhi danced with other chicks on a party. She hurt when Aadhi gave her a necklace as a gift that says good bye.
The movie on its edge, get more complicated when Ganapathy's wife found missing. As she is an Alzhiemers patient, she forget the way to reach back. While searching for her on a street, Aadhi realize that he is too possessive on her. He even hurt when Thaara stepped out from their jeep to search their Aunty without telling him.
After a thorough search through out the street, they find Bhavani Aunty standing in heavy rain. They bring her back to home and witness the strength of  relation, love and caring between the old couples. The movie nears to its last minutes when Thaara asks Aaadhi " will you be with me when i will be helplessly old and weak??".
Aaadhi says YES and movie ends with a song showing their marriage.

POSITIVES;
The film is a an upper class love story that shows the attitude of a youthful generation towards being in love, marriage,framing a family and other commitments that they used to consider as restrictions. Its thought provoking in a sense. The most beautiful thing ones eyes can't stare away from,is the attractive smile of Nithya menon. She keeps the film energetic and gave a compelling performance. Dulquer salman , defined as the icon of youth,once again proved his definition is a real truth in the industry. What make the audience to keep their attention on to the screen is the best background score from the one and only A.R.Rahman.
The film is having so many emotional romantic ethics and comparison between the rationale of love in old and new generation. Two of the Songs were marvelous, and remaining all can not be considered bad. The music tried to merge the youthfulness of the plot with carnatic music.In every movie, All this things could become good because of the skillful brain and empathetic mind of the one we call- DIRECTOR.

NEGATIVES:
The film is not satisfactory to all the audience.In fact it can entertain the audience to whom the story suits. Its not at all having surprising twists, breath taking moments, and variety in narration. It just moves, that's all..
No one can  tel its story because the movie lacks it actually. We all know there is only two possibilities in a love story. We may know what's the climax , but how the story reach the climax is what we wish to see. So, the script should have something promising to keep the audience till it reaches the end. But , it could not have a broad eyed level of situation. Its actually overwhelmed with office-skipping, ice creams and hiding romances.  Repeating almost the same incidence, may fail to comfort its viewers for 130 minutes.

RATING: I am giving 3 out of 5. Its a good movie , but can not be considered good and ticket-worthy for everyone.My advice is to watch with some one you love. It may drew them closure to you....
