BASKAR THE RASCAL, MALAYALAM MOVIE REVIEW

The Malayalam movie BASKAR THE RASCAL is a malayalam comedy cum family drama directed by Siddique, produced by Anto joseph , featuring Nayanthara and Mammootty in the cheif role. Its nicely captured into the film by Vijay Ulganath with the Rhythm  of Deepak Dev.
The film can claim its U.S.P with the star cast and the director he who has proved himself since the last 20 years with ever time family entertainers.

PLOT: The movie starts when baskar(mammootty) comes into a karate class in search of his boy who is actually compelled to learn martial arts even though he refuses.By the time, a team of local fighters invades a property of baskar for a business deal and they are carried to the karate class by making them chase his personal assistants. Baskar is typically known for his intolerance that usually leads to public flogs, so people are afraid of him. The same happens in the karatte class thus register the character of baskar.
His son , played by Sanoop santhosh( popular with his debut in philips and monkey pen) does not like baskar as he is a rebarbitive and do not have education and high-class mannerisms though he is a rich buisness man. They live together with baskars father played by janaardhanan.
With comedy crackers, the movie progress by familiarizing sanoop's classmate who is daughter of a chocolate industry owner Hima played by nayanthara. After realizing the interlinking between baskars son with Hima and Himas daughter with baskars son, as they both miss a powerful father and a caring mother in the same way both the children wish to unite their parents for a better life. Basically baskar and Hima does not have anything common and character wise, they are poles apart. Trying to make them come closure is the task to both the children.
The story take an unimaginable twist when it reveal the past of Hima. She was in love with a professional killer that she could know from the police department only after an incident of gun fire that killed him. So, the police instruct Hima to leave the city for her own safety. She don't have support from her family on being in relationship with that guy and was totally helpless after all this incidence.
Coming to the flash on present , baskar and Hima accepted the relation for the sake of their children. Happy ending of the story get more complexified after the entry of Himas husband back into the story. Finally he accepts Himas wish to stay apart in one condition that Hima should handover a briefcase which he had given her on their dates to keep it safe. It was all planned to kill Hima soon after she hand over the briefcase to her Husband who is actually a gangster. There is also another tug between Himas husband and his partner for the same brief case and their shares. When handling the brief case, surprisingly Baskar gets into the scene and help Hima escape. Following hima by both gangs, Baskar threw the briefcase to them and they kill themselves by shooting at each other for the same brief.case. Clearing all the pressures Hima leaves to Canada to her parents obeying their call and baskar says them Good bye...

POSITIVES.
The best part of the movie is Nayanthara, as she once again proved her talent and beauty by adapting the character accurately thus more near to be called as a chick flick. Mammootty also entertained the audience with his easy way of handling comedies and emotions. Songs were good, that soothe not only ears but the eyes too, with nicely sandwiching visuals.Moppets( child actors) also did their part well. Dramatic emotional ethics are added to some selected plots which could make the audience glued more to the story. Supporting comedians could make the audience really laugh with  so many fun-crackers especially on first half. The movie also pictured  many tips and turns of parent-child relationship. Isha thalwar as a cameo also deserves special mention.

NEGATIVES.
Although the first half is witty, it was too lengthy . So, may make people to look at the door of exit so many time for a refreshment. Somewhere the movie went little more childish with more attention given to the child plays to make their parents fall in love with each other, but it can be ignored as a neagative comment because it is well deserving to the core of plot. The artist who played as Himas husband does not bring either terrific or romantic feel.He just acted on confusion about his own character identity in the story. Songs were not up to the mark of deepak dev. Visuals of a song is exactly similar to the popular Arabic album ' i love you mammaa'.
The story could not reveal whats there in the brief case. It left as such its the duty of audience to consider something valuable is kept inside it.

RATING:  I am giving 4 out of 5. Its a complete family entertainer without any generation gaps for enjoyment. Good is always good regardless of  the type of audience. This statement may not be always true. But its absolutely proves right here. Despite the title, baskar is not Rascal. He is a good human being. Please go and watch his story.
