Four years, Malayalam movie review.
' Four years' is apparently a marriage between 'Super saranya' and 'Arjun Reddy' in a 'Hrudhayam' format. It tells the story of two youngsters and their conversations in the last days of their college life, who were broken up about six months before.
The story is very simple and usual. An academically bright girl falls in love with a talented boy, is a commonest plot for campus romance. 'Four years' also falls in that genre. The film starts with a photoshoot of the outgoing batch in which Vishal refuse to come even after Gayathri, his love interest makes her call. Just before they leave the campus Gayathri and Vishal meet mainly twice, once at night and then in the next morning. The film outstretches its narrative with the recollections of their college memories and keep on romanticising everything in the campus. As vishal have 31 backpapers, he is frustrated with its burden and ill focussed on his carrier goals. Gayathri advices him against his short tempered nature and tells him to focus on himself, that infuriates him again. As Gayathri steps out, he chases her back and reassures about himself and they hopefully separate, with a promise of meeting again after four years.
Positives.
The film is very relatable to college students as it touches every aspects of a campus life, be it the politics, academics, friendship and what's so ever.
Its filled with lots of oneliners as a part of conversations that successfully romanticised the scenes with decent degree of realism.
Music means alot to this film. Though it don't have such a first-impressive songs, Scenes are finely tuned along with suitable background scores, that helps one to stick with the story.
Performances of Priya prakash varrier and Sarjano khalid are stunning.
Negatives.
The film is overstretched with exhaustive exploitation of campus nostalgia. The places, canteen, dates, moments from the past have reminiscences, mostly through dailogues, but not through visuals. Its more like an oral nostalgia than a visual one.
Cliched detailing in narratives make the film lag in a snails pace. These detailing fall flat most often because of less emotional gravity.
Songs and background scores could have more beautiful to set a canvas for romanticism.
Rating.
Am giving 6/10. This film ends up in an exact place where its started. What we will be watching is a middle peice of Romance and nostalgia.
